RICHARD VOLPE ---> PRESS PLAY

Richard Volpe, an accompanist extraordinaire, passed away Thursday 8/14/2025. He was a vital member of the Irondequoit Chorale family, serving as our accompanist for over 20 years. He was also accompanist for Rochester Oratorio Society, Madrigalia, and the Rochester Bach Festival Chorus. He taught at Eastman and Hochstein, and also privately for many years. He was a concert pianist, performing twice in Carnegie Recital Hall in New York City. I was blessed and honored to work with him for so many concerts, as he elevated our performances with his musicianship. He was a close friend who deeply cared about the members in the group. Before each rehearsal he asked about how my family was doing, especially when my children were young. We plan to honor his legacy at our March 2026 concert this upcoming season. Richard, you will be missed but never forgotten.

The 70 voices of the Irondequoit Chorale consists of singers from all over the Rochester area. Our group was founded in 1994 by Heide Jorgensen-Murray, with Eric Trumpowsky serving as Musical Director since 2002. The Chorale performs 3 major concerts each season, frequently at Irondequoit High School, along with other performances around the area.
We take pride in offering performances of a very diverse variety of music. Selections of songs cover a multitude of styles: folk, pop, standards, spirituals, classical, jazz, Broadway, and many more. Recent performances have included John Rutter’s Requiem, Glenn McClure's Caribbean Christmas Mass, A Gershwin Portrait, and Joseph M. Martin’s Tidings of Joy – A Celtic Christmas Celebration. The Chorale has sung for special events such as the Rochester Marine Tattoo, the Oath of Citizenship Ceremonies for the County of Monroe, and the Irondequoit First Responders Memorial Service. The Chorale has collaborated with many area musical groups, including Penfield Symphony Orchestra, Irondequoit Community Orchestra, Lyric Chorale, Greece Choral Society, Roc City Ringers, and with many choirs at the Taste of Song Choral Prism concert at Eastman Theatre. The group has also sung at the National Cathedral in Washington DC, along with musical tours to Montreal and Ottawa, Canada.
Our rehearsals take place from September through June in West Irondequoit. We rehearse Tuesday evenings from 7:15-9:15PM. Auditions will take place in early September before the first rehearsal. If you are interested in joining the group, please contact Heide Jorgensen-Murray at 585-266-5018 or heidejmurray@gmail.com for more information.
We appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you at our concerts!
